"Beautiful weather It's unusual for San Francisco." |
The edge! |
You forget. |
The edge! |
Don't roll your eyes at me! |
|
"It's nice to know you had your little time in the limelight, but from now on, do things through me." |
The edge! |
Like in Sicily. |
"Bummer!" |
Even so. Civilized. |
Life is strange, huh? |
"Aaaiii! You scared me!" |
Even so. Civilized. |
Does every mountain lion kill? |
"You snuck up on me." |
Even so. Civilized. |
Only first class. |
"You stink." |
Not long. |
Citizen Canine: The World According to Dog. |
"Your hair smells like Chinese food." |
Not long. |
I'll change that soon. |
"Who the fuck likes liver?" |
Even so. Civilized. |
Whether it's good or bad, you don't care. |
"No means no! You're holding up the line." |
Not long. |
Make it a heart. |
"What if everybody thought they could do that?" |
The edge! |
All at the same time, you mean? |
"Where is everybody?" |
The edge! |
How would I know? |
["I love your coat!"] "Oh, everybody has this." |
The edge! |
In a war that's very handy. |
"You don't understand the big picture." |
Besides that! The back-story? |
Ghosts, Italian style. |
"Where's the rest of your party?" |
The edge! |
So bad, aren't they? |
"No rest for the wicked." |
The edge! |
Time off for good behavior. |
"Happiness always be with you." |
The edge! |
Here or there? |
"You're a gift from heaven." |
The edge! |
What's your number? |

01-AUG-1999. I actually write this on November 5th, 1994, which for both of us is a day in the past. That may seem so obvious in the outside physical world, yet inside you I am both within your present and I am reaching into both our pasts. From there, I am asking the child in you to be friends.
In the "today" that you read this, you may have felt bad for some reason. Maybe you felt you didn't have enough money, or things weren't going your way. Maybe you just ran out of cigarettes (Did I spell that wrong?) I want to get across to you that your painful feelings began at some point in your own past, and before that point YOU DIDN'T FEEL SO BAD.
Some time a long time ago you didn't feel bad about anything, and I want that part of you to realize I'm its friend. Listen. This website has closure. For more than eight years I wrote down everything I heard that struck me sort of strange. (Here's a word I can't even pronounce: anomaly.) I copied every anomalous speech pattern I could lay my ears on, every insult, every vacuous piece of small talk, every assault upon that entity inside myself that knew nothing of awkwardness, or money, or unfulfilled dreams. At some time early in our childhoods, everything was indistinguishable from ourselves, and everything contained a sense of intrinsic wonder.
During this last eight years, I had this remarkable idea that some moderate number of responses would, so to speak, cover all the bases. If someone said "this," I could say "that," and the "that" would make me feel close to myself. I simply wanted to be my own friend, because when you are friends with yourself, you can at least enjoy your own life before it's washed up on the shore of existence.
That is to say, I wanted to do more than just exist.
I, wish to live!
26-OCT-2014.
